IEEE DEIS EIC 2024 Electrical Insulation Conference

Minneapolis – Radisson Blu Mall of America
2100 Killebrew Dr, Bloomington, MN 55425

June 2 — 6, 2024

EIC 2024 will be held at the Radisson Blu Mall of America Hotel in Minneapolis, Minnesota, between June 2 – 6, 2024. Getting there from the airport is quick and cheap, thanks to the railway connection. The hotel is attached to the famous Mall of America, one of the largest shopping malls in North America (probably the largest).

The weather in Minneapolis is nothing less than great in June. Expect temperatures ranging between 60°F and 80°F (15°C to 27°C), and beautiful sunny days. Be sure to come ready to enjoy the outdoor life around the lakes, bike trails, and more. Offering great museums and strong influences from Scandinavian Americans, Finnish Americans, Irish Americans, German Americans, Native Americans, and Czechoslovak Americans, among numerous other immigrant groups there will be a lot of cultural diversity to interact with in the area. Although eventually not so positively used, the “Minnesota Nice” style is there!

The conference keeps as a target the integration between academia and industry. Technical papers mixing innovative research areas and practical applications related to the several challenges of electrical insulation are to be expected. Exhibitors showing their latest releases, end-users from the utilities and co-ops from the “mid-west” area, and young engineers who can drive from UofM, UW Madison, and the University of Winnipeg will certainly integrate the conference. We aexpect a massive participation of international attendees, who will count on one of the most modern and highest-ranked airports in the USA, with direct connections from several cities in Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, and Oceania.

MSP airport is the 16th busiest U.S. airport for passengers and the 17th for aircraft operations. It’s also a base for hometown carrier Sun Country Airlines and Delta Air Lines’ second-largest hub. The airport and its leadership have received various awards in numerous categories, including safety, fiscal management, labor relations, legal oversight, snow, and ice control, concessions, airport design and development, and marketing and communications. Most recently, MSP was named the 2017 top North American airport for efficiency excellence in its size category by the Air Transportation Research Society.

The main program of the conference will go from Sunday evening to Wednesday morning, followed by working group meetings in the afternoon and on Thursday. Differently from previous years, the conference opening on Sunday evening will start with a relevant keynote speaker and flow into the expo and a cocktail-style reception. Every conference day will start with a plenary speaker, followed by the presentation of technical papers and poster sessions.

We are preparing a very special session on Wednesday morning. Starting with a discussion panel organized by NEMA around the Impacts of Transportation Electrification on the Electrical Grid, there will be technical sessions on the same topic possibly followed by an IEC working group meeting in the afternoon on the same topic.
Start preparing your papers, as the submission of abstracts will be opened by the end of September. Papers approved and presented during the conference event will be published in the conference proceedings and will become accessible to other readers via IEEEXplore.

As locals would say, we betcha you will have a lot of fun at the 42nd Electrical Insulation Conference. And be ready to spend several extra minutes saying goodbye.
